Acupuncture involves the insertion of tiny needles into certain points all along the body. These areas are thought to correspond with energy pathways around the body and are known as meridians. Acupuncture is believed to restore the balance of this energy, or 'chi', throughout the body.
It is also believed that inserting needles into these points stimulate nerves under the surface of our skin and in our muscles. This process causes chemicals like endorphins and neurotransmitters to release in our body and is known to relieve pain and increase blood flow.
This treatment has been proven to be successful at treating a number of pain conditions, including tension headaches, neck pain, lower back pain, and fibromyalgia.
