Cheyenne, WY

cheyenne wyFor Cheyenne, Wyoming, the Union Pacific Railroad was a big deal when the track was laid in the city in 1867. The town already existed prior to the railroad and townsfolk were excited about the boom that the railroad would bring. Before the railroad was even constructed, Cheyenne had a relatively stable community with churches, a school and other select businesses, but after a year of the railroad being laid, more than 300 businesses opened in Cheyenne. With plenty of commercial services, industry, and connection to the outside world of the west, the railroad also brought more jobs for citizens such as engineers, lawyers, artists, trappers, and hunters. The city grew so much that it was dubbed the “Magic City of the Plains.”
